Michael Gardyne has been all but ruled out of Ross County’s trip to Elgin City in the Betfred Cup.

The Staggies travel to Borough Briggs tonight, but Gardyne will stay behind after being forced off during the Staggies’ match against Livingston last Friday.

The club record holder for appearances and goals (pictured) was captain for the evening, but required treatment after a heavy challenge in the first half.

It is not thought to be overly serious and Gardyne could return for Saturday’s final group match against Stirling Albion.

“We’re hopeful there’s no major damage to his ankle ligaments,” manager Stuart Kettlewell explained.

“There’s a fair bit of swelling around his foot and ankle after taking a real dull one as he went to cross the ball from the left.

“As always, he tries to soldier through it. It is fairly certain he’ll miss out on Tuesday and we’ll have to see how he is for Saturday.”
