Ross County’s League Cup dreams died as two goals early in the first half sent Livingston into the semi finals.

Livingston took the lead in controversial circumstances after four minutes when Craig Sibbald was ruled to be offside by the linesman after running on to Scott Robinson’s pass and charging into the box before firing into the net.

But the referee overruled the linesman’s decision saying Sibbald was onside and after consulting the referee allowed the goal to the fury of County’s players.

Regan Charles Cook was then forced off midway through the first half after picking up an injury and was replaced by Coll Donaldson.

Two minutes later Livingston doubled their advantage when a misclearance from Callum Morris ricocheted off Robinson and fell kindly for Alan Forrest in the six-yard box who nodded home from four yards.

Ross County claimed for a penalty just before half time arguing Harry Paton was fouled by Scott Pittman but the referee waved play on.

Ross Stewart and Billy McKay both had chances to pull one back before half time but their chances were saved by Livingston goalkeeper Max Stryjek.

Livingston could have scored a third on the hour mark when Scott Robinson hit the crossbar and 15 minutes from time Julien Serrano hit the post, but the hosts comfortably saw out the game.

Ross County face Hamilton Academical in Dingwall on Saturday requiring a victory to move them off the bottom of the Premiership.
