Ross County have made a much-needed signing in the heart of defence, moving to bring in Loick Ayina on loan until the end of the season.
It marks a return to Scottish football for the 20-year-old, having spent half of last season with Dundee United.
Starting his professional career with French side Troyes, the Democratic Republic of Congo native signed for Huddersfield in 2019, making his debut for the West Yorkshire side in early 2023.
Senior minutes have been hard to come by this season for Ayina, but he has made three appearances – in the League Cup against Middlesbrough, and in the league against Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City.
Huddersfield Town's website describes Ayina as "an aggressive, front-foot defender", and the young centre back's contract runs until this summer – although Huddersfield do have the option for a further year.
County manager Derek Adams had suggested a defensive signing was in the works due to a string of injuries in his backline, and has now filled the club's quota of seven loan signings.
