Ross County defender Loick Ayina's journey to an international call-up with the Congo for match against Gabon

Ross County loanee Loick Ayina has received an international call-up to the Congo squad.

The 20-year-old has made nine appearances for the Staggies since joining on loan from Huddersfield Town in January.

He had previously spent time on loan at Dundee United in the second half of last season, and returned south of the border to make three appearances for Huddersfield before moving to Dingwall.

Ayina's call-up will see him represent the country of his birth, having been born in Brazzaville – the capital of the Republic of the Congo.

From there Ayina moved to Paris, France, where he would pick up football with first Montrouge FC 92 and then Athletic Club de Boulogne-Billancourt.

Performances there saw him earn a spot in the Troyes academy, where he caught the eye of Huddersfield, and Ayina would move to Yorkshire alongside Brahima Diarra.

That led him to Scotland on temporary deals, and performances in the Premiership have earned him a spot in the national squad for their match against Gabon next Monday.

With Gabon featuring talent like Wolves' Mario Lemina and being captained by former Arsenal and Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,
