Ross County’s 5–0 victory over Dundee last week delighted everyone with any sort of investment in the Staggies – but for full back Connor Randall, it was just a bonus compared to getting back on the pitch.

The Liverpool youth graduate had missed six matches since picking up an injury in the 1–1 draw away at Aberdeen at the end of August.

Usually seen on the right side of the pitch, Randall filled in at left back at Dens Park as County dominated.

His versatility could well come in handy over the course of the campaign, and Randall is understandably happy to fill any role as long as it gets him game time.

“I was delighted to be back, I missed quite a few games since the Aberdeen game which has been frustrating,” Randall explained.

“I had been out injured and not been able to be out on the pitch.

“It was great to be back out there playing again and the result to go with it was the most important thing – it was a bonus to be playing in a win like that.

“As long as you are on the pitch, it doesn’t matter where you are playing.

“The most important thing was, as a team, we got the result we needed. It was a strong performance and we can look forward now. “

County hope that their win over Dundee marked the moment things clicked into place for them this season.

It was a tricky start to the 2021/22 campaign, and County only picked up one point from the games Randall missed.

The 26-year-old was helpless watching on the sidelines as his teammates struggled to get results, but he too is looking for the Staggies to kick on from here.

“For any player, when you come to the game on a Saturday you don’t want to be watching from the stand,” he reasoned.

“It is frustrating. You just want to be on the pitch after training every day.

“That’s part of football. That’s happens and you just have to take your chance when it comes along.

“A few injuries have set me back, but I was feeling good at the start of the season.

“I rolled my ankle and there is nothing you can do about that.

“I have been working hard to get myself fit and up to pace and thankfully I got my opportunity to get back in the team last week against Dundee. We got the win, and hopefully we can now push on.”
