ROSS County chairman Roy MacGregor expects face-to-face signing talks to open up with more targets within days.

Derek Adams, who returned to the Dingwall club as manager two weeks ago, has been on holiday in Florida with his dad, director of football George Adams.

With Colin McMenamin snapped up from rivals Queen of the South and Grant Munro after being released by Caley Thistle, the County chief told the North Star the distance of his manager in the past fortnight has not stopped the business of bolstering the squad.

He explained: “Although on holiday in Florida, I know Derek and George have been talking to a lot of players and I feel sure that as soon as early next week, we’ll be sitting down and talking to the players we’re interested in.”

Meanwhile, Ross County fans are welcoming the arrival once more of Adams as boss, plus the two signings to date.

Craig Maclean (37), a member of the Inverness Ross County Supporters Club hailed Munro as “one of the best signings in years.”

He explained: “Grant is a terrific signing because he’s been over the course before, won the First Division twice, has years of SPL experience and he’s local. Maybe, in the past we have lacked that bit of experience, but he brings the side that.

“Colin McMenamin is another great signing and I’m delighted by his arrival. He’s scored goals at every club he’s been at, so that’s a real boost.”

On Adams’ returning to the Victoria Park hot-seat, the 37-year-old said: “Speaking to the supporters, I think most are quite happy to see Derek back. Probably no-one saw that coming, but he knows the club, he’ll be living local and, importantly, he’s signed a three-year deal, so players will know that the manager is here for that time. It’s brought stability back to Ross County.”

Former Aberdeen, Dunfermline Athletic and Kilmarnock boss Jimmy Calderwood kept the club in the First Division during his 11-week stint after replacing axed Willie McStay.

It seemed like Caldo was red-hot favourite to land the job permanently, but Maclean from Inverness said: “I think the longer it went on without any news of Jimmy coming back, it seemed he would not be getting the job, but Derek’s return was a welcome surprise.”

Last week, MacGregor told the NS that the board will make the cash available to Adam to buy the standard of player required to push for the First Division title.

Maclean, a Staggies fans since the club entered the Scottish Football League in 1994, sees no reason why they can be at the right end of the table after flirting with the relegation zone too dangerously last term.

He said: “I certainly hope we can be up there. Last season, coming just one year after reaching the Scottish Cup final, was a major disappointment, so if the club can bring in a few more players, I’d like to think we can be in the top four and perhaps even higher.”
