Ross County have secured experienced defender Will Nightingale on loan from AFC Wimbledon.

The 27-year-old centre half will join the Premiership side initially until January next year.

Nightingale, until now, has been a one-club servant, spending his whole career at Plough Lane since joining the English League Two outfit at the age of nine.

Since turning professional, he has played over 200 games since making his senior debut for the Dons in 2015.

Nightingale was part of the side promoted to League One in 2016 and amassed 175 league games for them across two divisions, before being made captain at the age of 23.

County manager Malky Mackay said: “I am delighted to bring Will Nightingale to the Highlands.

“He has been a stalwart at Wimbledon for over a decade, their captain, leader and talisman.

“He will also bring a freshness to the club as well as vast experience in a key position.

“He is another strong character we have added to this group and we are very excited to see him in the SPFL.

“Will has shown incredible loyalty to Wimbledon. This is his first venture away from his home and we are delighted to bring him into our family.”

Nightingale, County's eighth pre-season signing, could make his Dingwall debut for the Staggies in their second League Cup group game against Championship Morton at Global Energy Stadium on Saturday.
