ROSS County manager Malky Mackay says VAR will help improve officiating in the Scottish game if it is introduced next season.

The Staggies manager was left furious after Jake Doyle-Hayes opener was allowed to stand in the 2–0 defeat against Hibernian.

Before the goal was scored, television replays showed Harry Paton was clipped by Rocky Bushiri which allowed Doyle-Hayes a clear shot at goal.

Mackay says if VAR was introduced to the game it would result in most mistakes being addressed, including that goal being disallowed.

“When VAR comes in it will help,” says Mackay.

“There are moves afoot for that to happen, clubs in the league and SFA are in consultation to bring in it maybe for next year.

“What it does in England, it takes away 97 per cent of mistakes.”

Speaking about his conversation with the referee regarding the incident, he said:”I asked him did you not see the foul?

“When you look up at the screen, it is clear as day that Bushiri clips him and stops Paton from tackling him.

“But there are decisions you just have to swallow and get on with it.”

Depsite Ross County’s first defeat in five games, Mackay is confident they can maintain their positive momentum going into their big clash with St Johnstone at Dingwall on Saturday.

“We are coming down to one of the biggest clubs with one of the biggest budgets in Scotland.

“We are a team that’s going toe to toe with teams in this league and not seen as the minnow.

“Well maybe we are, but when I put a team out we are as dangerous as the other team.”

“We are one defeat in five and seven unbeaten at home.”

He added: “It’s going to be that until the end of the season and we are going to have to be on our mettle every week.

“But I’m confident in the group that i’ve got we’re as good as most in this league.”
