Ross County Cricket Club’s strength with the bat once again proved to be enough to pick up a win in the North of Scotland league.

Matches against Nairn County often turn out to be high-scoring affairs, and that was the case with over 500 runs scored at The Links last weekend, with the Strathpeffer outfit picking up all 20 points.

Duncan Scott’s century led the way for Ross County as they won by 23 runs to jump back into title contention.

Three teams have a 3–1 record in the Senior League at the halfway stage, with last weekend’s results putting Ross County’s fate back in their own hands.

“It’s wide open,” opening batsman Chris Blake said.

“It’s going to come down to who takes points off each other, it’s as simple as that. The good thing from our point of view is that it’s back in our hands.

“If we win all our games from here on in, then we will be champions.

“We’ve been posting really high totals, which seems to be the theme for this season. If you can score 250 regularly, you will win the majority of those games.

“We probably made it a little bit more difficult for ourselves than we would have liked last weekend, but fair play to Nairn.

“They came really close and gave it a good go, they just ran out of steam in the end.”

Tomorrow Ross-shire’s cricketers are back on home turf at Castle Leod taking on fellow challengers Northern Counties.

Counties came out on top when the sides met in Inverness at the start of the season, so the motivation for Ross County will be two-fold – harm a title rival’s bid, and get revenge for the defeat at Northern Meeting Park.

“We will be hoping for a better performance against Northern Counties on Saturday,” Blake added.

“They’re the only team that has taken points off us this year, so we’ll be looking to reverse that.

“We tend to play well at our own place and score some runs, so hopefully that will be in our favour.

“We’ll definitely be looking to get our own back on them.

“The first time we played them, we didn’t really play to our potential, so we’ll be looking to show them what we can do this time.”

For Ross County’s players, it will also be a final chance to stake their claim for a spot in next weekend’s Senior Cup final squad.
