Ross County were blown away by a rampant Motherwell in their heaviest defeat of the season which leaves them five points from safety in the Scottish Premiership.

The Staggies had no answer to a dominant Motherwell showing in the first half as they went into the break 3-0 up with goals from Andy Halliday, Blair Spittal and Theo Bair.

Spittal then got his second three minutes before the end with Jack Vale scoring in injury time to make it a miserable night for Ross County at Fir Park.

Ross County are in 11th place, five points behind St Johnstone in 10th and could be further behind if the Saints beat Hearts in Perth tomorrow night.

The Staggies remain six points ahead of Livingston at the bottom of the table.

Motherwell took the lead after nine minutes when Bair squared the ball for Halliday who fired home from 10-yards out.

Spittal then doubled their advantage midway through the first half when he connected with a Halliday pass before firing a spectacular curling effort off the post which went into the net.

Eight minutes before half time, Motherwell were awarded a penalty when Will Nightingale brought down Spittal and Bair sent George Wickens the wrong way to make it 3-0 at the break.

Spittal got his second and Motherwell's fourth three minutes from time with another spectacular effort before Vale scored a tap-in in injury time.
