The Staggies were hammered by Motherwell 5–0 at the Global Energy Stadium on Tuesday night as they were left blown away by a second-half blitz.

The defeat has seen them drop into the relegation zone in 11th place, after Kilmarnock moved up to 10th following their 2–1 victory over St Johnstone on Wednesday.

Mackay admitted Ross County were awful on Tuesday night and now he is expecting a reaction when they head to Livingston tomorrow afternoon.

“I am experienced enough to realise we have to pick up points, we have to compete and do the fundamentals needed in the Premier League where we can pick up points.

“That is something I will continue to drive into them.

“Livingston is never an easy game, they are a good club, with a good team and a good manager.

“That will be a tough game but we have to look at putting a bit of pride back into our performance.”

Mackay says he was embarrassed by his own performance as a manager that his team was beaten so easily after Ross County were thrashed 5–0 by Motherwell.

Mackay apologised to the fans admitting the team were awful in the second half.

“I want to apologise to our fans for having to watch what they did,” he said. “I am embarrassed by my own performance, so I want to give an apology from me to them. They have been fantastic since I got here and the backing they have given the team and they had to watch that second half.

“We started the first half reasonably well and the penalty came against the run of play.

“We were quite attack minded and got in high areas of the pitch, but the ball seems to be rolling the other side of the post.

“The second half was awful and that’s something we have to address.”
