MANAGER Malky Mackay wants Ross County to become the leader of the pack of teams in the bottom five when the season resumes after the winter break.
Ross County are in 10th position in the Premiership after Sunday’s 2–1 defeat at Hearts but only two points behind Livingston in eighth.
With St Mirren one point ahead, Dundee two points behind and St Johnstone four points adrift at the bottom, the Staggies have fought back from a difficult start to the campaign to move out of the relegation zone.
Until their first win of the campaign on October 27 when they hammered Dundee 5–0, County had only picked up three points previously.
But they have recorded 15 points from their last 10 games with their form improving significantly.
Mackay says the team completed their objective of getting among the pack of bottom teams and not letting them run away after a difficult start to the season.
Now he is challenging his team to push on and ensure relegation is not a problem in the closing stages of the campaign.
“We have to get points, we are high in the form guide which shows belief to the players,” said Mackay.
“We have to make sure after the break we have the same belief with points on the board.
“In the month leading up to now, we wanted to get back into the pack and we have done it, we are in the pack.
“There are five of us that are tight and really close, after the new group we brought in at the start and after the first round of games, for us to be able to do and bring ourselves back into it, I now want us to kick on again.”
“I have a group with real belief, the games against Celtic and winning at St Johnstone, we can play against anyone and give them a good game. We have to add a bit extra to make sure we come away with three points. If you look at the last period there are reasons to be cheerful.”
