Fortrose and Rosemarkie golfer Lewis Reid qualifies for matchplay rounds of Scottish Amateur Championship being held across Royal Dornoch and Tain

Lewis Reid from Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club has qualified for the matchplay rounds of the Scottish Amateur Championship at Royal Dornoch and Tain Golf Club when he finished in 61st place.

He made the cut in the 36-hole qualifiers which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Reid hit a 69 in the first round of the competition before firing a 76 in the second round to finish on +5.

It was good enough to make the matchplay rounds, which have already begun and will continue into the weekend.

He was due to take on Connor Graham from Blairgowrie Golf Club who finished in fourth place overall in the qualifiers.

Brora golfer Chris Mailley produced a superb performance in the qualifying rounds when he finished in sixth place overall.

In his first round, he hit a 71 and then improved significantly in his second round by recording a 66 to finish with -3.

Mailley went up against Craig Pirie in the last 64, with a tee time of 9.48am this morning.

Jonathon Keith from Inverness Golf Club was the other Highland qualifier for the matchplay rounds of the competition.

He finished in 28th place and is up against Thomas Simmonds first in the matchplay rounds.

Cameron Adam from Royal Burgess was the top scorer during the qualifiers when he finished on -14.

He shot 63 in both rounds at Royal Dornoch and Tain Golf Club.

Ross Laird was in second place in the qualifiers on -10 and Paul Dorrian third on -6.
