Malky Mackay insists the thought of Yan Dhanda leaving Ross County this summer has not even entered his mind.

The 24-year-old creative midfielder has been linked with English Championship clubs Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and soon to be second tier side Ipswich Town in recent days.

Reported interest comes after a season where Dhanda has been pound for pound one of the most creative players in the Scottish Premiership, and in particular after he claimed two assists against Livingston last week.

That moves him to the top of the Staggies’ assists leaderboard, now sitting on six in league action alone this season.

Mackay knows how valuable the former England youth international will be for the Staggies in the run-in.

In fact, that is heightened all the more with injuries to other key creative players like Eamonn Brophy and Gwion Edwards keeping them on the sidelines.

Mackay’s focus, then, is on the next match at hand and not transfer business for the summer, but he has said no discussions have taken place over a possible exit for Dhanda.

“That’s not even something that has entered my frame of mind at the moment,” Mackay said.

“He’s signed to us, he’s our player, and I’m just delighted that he is back in the team and has hit the ground running again.

“We lost him for five weeks to injury when he had hit a really good vein of form.

“He has come in and settled in to the way of life here, and the frenetic nature of the football.

“He has probably learned about himself on and off the field too – he has got a new baby with his wife.

“He has grown up by the minute, and he’s a very articulate and intelligent boy.

“I think he’s also beginning to see how he’s adapting as a footballer, which makes a difference. That’s starting to show.”

There is no change to team news at County from last week’s win over Livingston.
