PICTURES - Ross County Athletics Club celebrate North Cross Country League success

Ross County Athletics Club had yet another hugely successful weekend’s running at the final meeting of the North District Cross Country League season in Forres.

There were a number of stand-out individual performances as well as some superb results in the team awards.

The under-11 girls got the day started with Sophie Macgruer and Bethan Schiller both competing fantastically well in a strong field and finishing in sixth and 12th place respectively.

The under-11 boys followed with Robbie Welsh running a superb race to finish in third place.

Welsh was closely followed by Callum Crawford in fourth. This secured Crawford a fantastic second place in the overall standings.

Also having impressive runs were Hamish Welsh 11th, Finlay Crawford 17th and Ali Maclean in 20th.

The under-13 girls again showed that they can compete with the best of them with Flora Sutherland continuing her fine run of form to finish in second place, securing her second place overall in the individual placings.

Just 10 seconds behind Sutherland in fourth place was Lucy Fraser followed in by Anna Fraser and Daisy Hendry in seventh and 11th place.

The under-13 boys race saw Calum Duffy run a commanding race, finishing comfortably in first place with Jamie Macgruer third and Sam MacLean fourth.

In the individual standings Calum along with Rowin Schiller who was unfortunately not competing due to illness finished in joint-second place.

The boys deservedly defended the team award retaining the shield for Ross County.

The sole Ross County participant in the under-15 girls category was Caitlyn Heggie, who capped off an outstanding season winning the race by well over a minute and winning the individual title in the process.

This was yet another gutsy performance and a tribute to her hard work and determination over the last year.

Next up was the under-15 boys who have dominated the field consistently over the season.

They didn’t disappoint in Forres either, with Andrew Baird yet again leading from the gun to come home in first place and complete a clean sweep of wins for the series, a truly fantastic achievement.

Noah Carson ran a terrific race to finish in third place, securing him overall third spot for the season.

Ali Young in fourth, George Ross in eighth and Struan Ellen in 10th showed the strength in depth Ross County have in this age group as they comfortably won the team category.

The under-17 women's race saw further success for the club with Rhiannon Ebrihem running a strong race to finish in second followed closely by Emily Bell in third place and Morag Lynch in fifth.

This secured Bell secon in the overall standings and another team title for Ross County.

The under 17 men saw Sam Coull and Ruaridh Ellen compete and come home in fifth and sixth place in a strong field.

Emily Welsh flew the flag in the senior women's race finishing a highly credible 12th place.

Attention now turns to the National Cross-country Championships in Falkirk on the Saturday, February 26 where the club hopes to build on the success of the North League.
