Ross Sutherland Rugby Club have spruced up the side their clubhouse with the help of a local artist.

Tain-based Fin Macrae has led a team of artists who have been hard at work depicting an iconic moment from the rugby club's national cup run in 2018 on the clubhouse, with the enterprise being supported by Invergordon Distillery who have done similar projects at their base.

The scene shows a spectacular try from John Reid as Ross Sutherland battled their way to the National Bowl final at Murrayfield five years ago, where they defeated Wigtownshire to take the trophy back to Invergordon.

Reid is a homegrown talent for the club, making it all the more appropriate that his memorable moment should be in a place of prominence at the club according to chairman John Scott.

"Fin is a local lad and his work has really brought the building to life, plus it's being supported by Invergordon Distillery, so it's tying in with the local community too," Scott explained.

"It's an iconic picture of John Reid scoring a Fijian-style try in the corner.

"His daughter came down to see it and was so excited, and John is someone who came through the ranks at the club.

"For teenagers in this area, there are other temptations, but rugby was something that John got stuck into and it has given him opportunity, so we're delighted that he's featured on the side of the building.

"It's a sport for everyone, and it provides opportunities. His wife Natalie was our first ever women's team captain, so we're delighted that this is the image that's on the side of our building.

"The great thing about the artwork is that you see it from a distance – you can't miss it.

"If you're driving down the road and look up, you will see not just the artwork but 'Ross Sutherland Rugby Club established 1923' – it's our centenary year – and to have something like that in place is very exciting."
