Alness United will not be taking anything for granted when travelling to the North Caledonian League’s bottom-placed side Inverness Athletic tomorrow, according to manager Rob MacCormack.

While both sides would have wanted better results over the campaign so far, Alness in seventh are in a much better position than Athletic.

With a 3–0 win over them when the sides met earlier in the season and a fully fit squad to pick from this time around, too, it is United who should be the favourites going in, but MacCormack says they will start all over again come kick off.

“They’ve gone on and got a great result against Bonar Bridge, who we drew with in our last game, so you just don’t know,” he explained.

“This season has been a funny one, everybody is picking up points against everybody else.

“Inverness Athletic absolutely hammered Bonar Bridge, and then we played Bonar a couple of weeks ago and they were a decent side.

“They worked really hard, so you can’t really take much from other results in previous weeks.

“We’re not going to go into the game thinking we beat them before so it’s automatically going to happen this time around.

“We’ll have to work hard and be at our best to get three points, and hopefully we will pick up a win.”

There is the added incentive for all North Caley clubs this weekend of it being the final match day of 2021, so everyone will be desperate to go into the winter break on a high.

“It’s definitely important to win,” MacCormack insisted.

“The calendar year for the club has been fantastic, so hopefully we can finish it off with a win.

“That’s what we want to do, get three points, and then we’ll look forward to the second half of the second and move on to next year.

“Hopefully it will be an exciting one with the new facilities and pitches that are getting ready right now.”
