John Mann is encouraged by Ross Sutherland’s rate of progress this year.

Pre-season hopes of a promotion push in Caledonia North Two have fallen by the wayside, but Mann has had to overhaul the squad.

Most of the team from last season have moved on, and have largely been replaced by youngsters making the step up to senior rugby for the firs time.

“I was looking back last Sunday on my plan for the year,” Mann said.

“From that, I’ve lost my two scrum halves, I’ve lost my full back, I’ve lost my seven, I’ve lost my five, I’ve lost one of my front rows, I’ve lost a centre, and that’s just from boys retiring."
