SCOTT Allardice says he is relishing the opportunity of playing Premiership football with Ross County this season after moving on from Inverness Caledonian Thistle during the summer.

The centre midfielder signed for the Staggies after spending three years with their neighbours in the Championship.

He earned a reputation as one of the top midfielders in the second tier during his time at Inverness.

But with Caley Thistle failing to win promotion from the Championship, Allardice felt it was time to move on.

He says he was pleased to be offered the chance of Premiership football with Ross County, saying proving himself in the top flight is what he wants as a professional footballer.

“It’s all that I wanted,” he admitted.

“Playing in the Championship with Inverness, promotion was our goal and unfortunately the club didn’t achieve that.

“I am at Ross County now and the chance to play in the Premiership is all that I ever wanted.

“I don’t want to come here and just make up the numbers, I want to excel. I have played a few games where I have been trying to find my feet in the team and as things continue I will grow.”

Allardice says he is also enjoying working with new manager Malky Mackay as he looks to establish himself as a first team regular.

“Malky has been brand new, he has been speaking about wee things about my game and asking me to express myself and make my voice heard.

“I have played a lot of games for my age, i’m 25 and at the right age to kick on.

“He is expecting me to make an impact on the team in the short and long term and put demands on myself and others.”

Ross County can guarantee qualification for the knockout stages of the League Cup if they can pick up at least a point in their final group game against Kelty Hearts at the Global Energy Stadium in Dingwall tomorrow afternoon.
