Jason Naismith believes Ross County’s players will know exactly what is at stake when Hamilton come to Dingwall next Wednesday – and it has to motivate them.
Depending on Kilmarnock’s result against St Mirren, the Staggies could guarantee safety with three points against relegation rivals Hamilton.
Naismith says County’s squad will be well aware of that come kick off, but they have to use that to perform at their best instead of baulking under the pressure.
“It’s hard to block it out, because it’s human nature – it’s there, it’s a well-known fact that if we win we could stay up,” he explained.
“It has to be motivation rather than a distraction. It’s there for us, it’s in our own hands.
“So we need to go and win the game, simple as that. They will be fighting for their lives, the same as us.
“They’re always there, but they’ve fought to the end as we have.
“I think it will go to the wire, I just hope that next Wednesday we don’t throw it away and we can press on.”
Both sides will go into the contest having won their previous matches last weekend, with every bit of momentum they can gain crucial at this decisive stage of the season.
For the Staggies, they can take heart from a complete performance against Dundee United that saw the Terrors fail to hit the target once.
Naismith, though, will take the points even if it means coming nowhere near the same heights.
“I wouldn’t care if we played rubbish in the last two games but won,” he reasoned.
“It’s all about results at the end of the day, we need to make sure we win, but the performance gives you a platform.
“We can take confidence from knowing that we can put in that kind of performance.
“Our shape was brilliant defensively and offensively, we were brave and we just need to take that into the Hamilton game now.”
