Just one week after her Inverness homecoming, Kirsty Law pulled on a Scotland vest at the Loughborough International for the 15th time – recording her third win in the last four years.

The return to Queens Park in the Highland capital was Law’s first event of the season, but it may have made a crucial difference in getting her sharp enough to win gold in Loughborough.

Back at the Inverness Harriers, where Law is a life-member, she threw 54.66 metres.

Last weekend at Loughborough, that would only have been good enough for second, but thankfully for Law she improved her distance to finish top of the pile.

This time, she threw 56.30m, ahead of Windsor Slough Eton and Hounslow’s Amy Holder who threw 55.45m.

The National Athletic League’s Shadine Duquemin was third with 53.28m.

It was yet another triumph for Law, who is the most experienced Scottish athlete in the history of the competition.

However, it did not always seem like a foregone conclusion that she would be pulling on the Scotland vest one more time last weekend.

With such a storied history of international call-ups to her name already, Law at one point felt as though she was not ready to compete and considered pulling out.

However, she eventually changed her mind and decided to make an appearance – a decision that clearly paid off in the end as she delivered full points for Scotland once again.

‘I thought it over and asked myself ‘Why would I not represent Scotland?’,” she told the Scottish Athletics website.

“There was no real reason not to other than my own ego getting in the way and thinking it might not go well.

“Who knows, this might be my last year so far better to pull on the vest than sit in the house and then just do your best on the day.”
