Muir of Ord Golf Club is hoping the impressive European Tour success of Oban’s Robert MacIntyre will generate strong interest in Sunday’s Scottish Amateur Left-Handed Championships.

As the new host club, Muir of Ord attracted 44 competitors a year ago when their own John Mackay triumphed in the scratch event.

John Mackay won the Scottish Left-Handed Championship in 2018, when it was held in Muir of Ord for the first time.

Mackay will look to defend his title this year against a strong local field in an event that has attracted entries from as far afield as Perth, Gairloch and Dufftown.

MacIntyre, at the age of just 22, is following in the footsteps of great left-handers like Bob Charles, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson.

Since turning pro in 2017, he has won the Sahara Kuwait Championship and has enjoyed two consecutive top two finishes in the 2019 Betfred British Masters and the Made in Denmark tournament.

Hamish Milne, Muir of Ord club captain, said: “The fantastic impact of Oban’s lefty Robert MacIntyre on the European Tour is certainly putting left handed golfers on the map.

“We’re hoping his success will encourage a good turn-out this year."
