Jamie Whittet sets new course record at Muir of Golf Club to win the Ross-shire County Championship

Jamie Whittet cruised to victory at the 2021 Ross-shire County Championship by setting a new course record at Muir of Ord Golf Club.
The 26-year-old re-wrote the history books at his home town course when he hit a 61 in the second round of the championship yesterday.
He broke the previous record by one shot of 62 which was held jointly by Graeme Mellis and Scott Dingwall.
The mechanical technician at Glen Ord Distillery claimed the trophy for the first time in his career by six shots ahead of Lewis Reid in second place.
Whittet hit a 69 in his first round when he was one shot behind Chris Gaittens who was leader at the half way stage.
But nobody could live with him in the second round as Whittet says he produced the best golf of his life to blow the competition away.
"I played well all day to be honest and the putts just started dropping in the second round," he said.
"My playing partner was playing well too and it was a battle between the two of us and fortunately I came out on top.
"I would have to say it is the best round of golf that I have ever played.
"It was definitely one of my ambitions to get the course record at Muir of Ord, so i'm delighted to have done it with a few years to spare."
Whittet has been playing golf for 20 years and was also part of the Muir of Ord team that won the Northern Counties Championship for the first time in 33 years last September.
He is also a previous winner of the Muir of Ord Golf Club Championship.
Looking forward to a summer of golf, Whittet says his victory this weekend may inspire him to take part in certain competitions in 2021.
He said: "I hadn't planned anything before this, but I might make an attempt at the Scottish Amateur Championship in July, but we will have to wait and see."
