MATCHING halves of 34 for a one-under-par card of 68 gave Muir of Ord’s John Forbes back to back wins in the North Golf Alliance fixture at Invergordon last weekend.

Forbes, with two previous scores from Tain (73), and Brora (74), is now in a position to win the aggregate Alliance Scratch Quaich in his first season as a member — but he will first have to make the long journey into Caithness to complete his requisite four- round total with a north venue card..

Golspie’s Darren Hexley, a club mate of Forbes at Muir of Ord, claimed second place with a gross 70 on greens which were not easy to hole out on.

Munro Ferries (Tain) carded a 73, matched by ex-Invergordon member and holder of the Scratch Quaich, Dougie Thorburn from Reay. Hexley’s nett 68, off 2 was the best in the Class 1 section where there were only sixteen cards returned but in the better supported Class 2 handicap section a nett 72 from twelve handicapper Alan Sangster (Tain) led the way and following with a stroke more was local David Mackay, off 11.

The next scheduled fixture is due at Tarbat Golf club on Sunday, March 3 unless, weather permitting, Reay Golf Club gets another chance to host their overdue fixture this weekend.
