Ross County were well and truly thrashed as Motherwell ran riot in front of goal in a devastating performance at Fir Park.

Goals from Tony Watt, Mark O’Hara, Callum Lang and Devante Cole gave Motherwell a deserved victory as they stampeded over the Staggies to win all three points.

But Ross County started the match brightly and could have taken the lead in the second minute.

Iain Vigurs won the ball in midfield and released Regan Charles-Cook who charged into the box but shot wide of the left post.

Motherwell were forced into a substitution midway through the first half when goalkeeper Trevor Carson was injured while challenging for the ball outside the box and collided into Charles-Cook.

He was unable to continue and was replaced by Aaron Chapman.

Motherwell took the lead eight minutes before half time when Watt was not picked up by County’s defence and managed to get on to the end of a sensational cross from Nathan McGinley on the left wing to nod past Ross Doohan from six yards.

But County should have equalised on the stroke of half time when Harry Paton’s cross from the left wing found Charles-Cook and his shot from six yards out was cleared off the line.

Motherwell were gifted the chance to go two goals up when Alex Iacovitti brought down Tony Watt in the box to concede a penalty.

O’Hara sent Doohan the wrong way as he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner from 12 yards.

Substitute Lang then put Motherwell 3-0 up in the 64th minute when Declan Gallagher nodded a corner kick back into the six-yard box and he fired home from close range.

Cole made it 4-0 10 minutes later when he latched on to a flick by Watt and beat the offside trap to charge towards goal and fired a low dive past Doohan.
