But the 20-year-old winger also hopes they can push on and chase down Loch Ness by challenging the tabletoppers as they bid to win their first North Caledonian League title.

Saints won the North Caledonian Cup last season defeating Halkirk United 1–0 in the final.

The University of Highlands and Islands sports therapy student would love to replicate their cup victory this season. He says victory against the best team in the league so far at Grant Park could give them a psychological edge for the rest of the campaign, believing the title is up for grabs.

“We usually do well in the cup competitions,” says Voigt.

“I think we could win this cup and as we did win it last season and the club do want to hold on to it.

“But we are aiming to challenge for the league too and I think that we still have a chance.

“I think we have to treat every match as a cup final, if we want to win the league.

“We lost 2-1 to Loch Ness earlier in the campaign, they are the hardest team to beat this season.”

Voigt joined St Duthus in 2021 after arriving in the area having previously lived in Germany near Munich with family.

Both his parents at German, but Voigt was born in England and lived in Portsmouth before moving to Tain. He played with Newport FC in the Isle of Wight League before arriving in Ross-shire.

Voigt came to the attention of St Duthus via former manager Bob Bannerman, who his family bought a house from at Lamington.

Bannerman contacted St Duthus asking if they would be interested in Voigt’s services as he was looking for a football club and has particularly impressed this season.

Voigt has scored six goals in this season’s campaign, which has included four in his last five matches.

He hopes that he can find the net more before the end of the campaign and that it leads to success.

“I am pleased with how my form has been so far this season and it is something that I am keen to keep up,” says Voigt.

“It has been a good season for the club, although we were unfortunate in the Football Times Cup final against Invergordon.

“I am hoping that we can make it right by winning the North Caledonian Cup.

“I am confident that we can progress against Loch Ness on Saturday.

“It will be a tight game but we are looking to get the win that takes us through to the semi finals of the competition.”
