Great Britain’s number one junior para-athlete Abbie McNally could be denied GB squad selection for the 2019 World Junior Championships.

The Alness-raised athlete is on tenterhooks over her chances of winning a place among the world’s best in Switzerland this August.

McNally, who is also the second-ranked British performer at senior level, performed superbly last weekend at the Italian Para Athletics Grand Prix at Grosetto.

The 18-year-old claimed gold in the 200m sprint with a time just outside her personal best, and took bronze in the 100m with a career best time.

McNally’s performances should, in theory, keep her at the forefront of British selectors’ thoughts.

But as her coach Charlie Forbes explained, political considerations could still work against the talented Highlander when the team is announced next Tuesday.
