Jack Mann is officially in the world amateur golf rankings after claiming victory at the Junior Tour Scotland event at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club.
The Avoch teenager took the title at his home golf course by two shots with a final score of 211 after three rounds.
He was two shots ahead of Fraser Laird from Kemnay Golf Club and six ahead of Charlie Gillespie from St Andrews Golf Club.
Over 54 holes, he recorded rounds of 73 and 71 before an excellent 67 in the final round secured victory.
Mann (16), a fourth year pupil at Fortrose Academy, says it was the biggest moment of his golf career.
“It was massive to get the first career win under my belt, it is definitely a starting point for me,” he said.
“I was in the final group with two great players and playing under pressure in the last few holes. Luckily I was in the lead after being behind at the start.
“But it was a big advantage playing on my home course, as well as being under pressure, I had the feeling that I should be up there to win.
“The golf course is short, but you need strategy to win on it.
“Playing on the course a lot, I felt I did have the upper hand on the other boys.”
Mann started playing golf when he was six and received his handicap when he was 11.
Winning the tournament has now put Mann in the world amateur golf rankings.
He says it will now open new doors in terms of his golf career.
“It is massive for my golf career, you need to win a tournament to qualify for the rankings, so it signifies I have done something well.
“It is now my aim to continue playing solid golf in big tournaments to add to the points and work my way up the rankings.
“Thanks to the rankings, I can enter new tournaments and the next aim for me is to play in competitions of a higher degree and also represent my country.”
Mann credits his rise in the sport to Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club and his coach Rob Douglas and well as receiving sponsorship from Ross-shire Engineering.
