MANAGER Liam Muir has praised his Maryburgh team for romping to the Inverness and District Premier League title by winning every game so far this season.

The Ross-shire outfit cruised to the league title having won all 15 league matches with only one game remaining to play this season.

The club were presented with the trophy on Monday night after they thrashed Black Isle United 16-1.

Muir always had confidence that his team were good enough to lift the league title and was proud they have done so by picking up maximum points so far.

With one match remaining against Avoch, set to be played on Monday, August 14, Muir says they are treating that game as a cup final, demanding a 100 per record.

“We are treating our final league game as a cup final,” said Muir.

“This is something that we have been talking about for the last six weeks, that we will look to go and win every game.

“I don’t know if this has been done before and if we could achieve all 16 wins in the league it would be some achievement.

“Certainly in my time, I can’t remember a team winning every game in the league, so it is something we would like to achieve.

“We have not always had our strongest team available this season, but have still managed to win every match.

“That is testament to the depth of our squad.

“We have a great bunch of lads and most of the team have been together for the last two years.

“I think I added one new face last year and there have been a couple of new boys who come into the squad this season.

But they have been taken into the club and fitted in well with the rest of the lads.

“The boys are prepared to fight for each other and there is a great team spirit at our club.”

Maryburgh are aiming to achieve a league and cup double this season as they are still in the Association Cup.
