MARYBURGH boss Liam Muir praised the commitment of his players throughout this season as they clinched the Inverness and District Premiership title on the final day of the season.

Maryburgh have been crowned league champions.
Maryburgh have been crowned league champions.

Maryburgh won the title on Monday night when they thrashed Black Rock Rovers 10–1 in Evanton to claim the trophy.

They finished one point clear of last season’s champions Loch Ness, who were given a walkover in their final game after their scheduled opponents IRN Security forfeited the match.

Muir says his team were in tremendous form during the second half of the campaign to secure the title.

He says it was a magnificent team effort to win 11 out of 14 matches with only one defeat in the league to secure the title.

“I am very happy with how the players have performed this season,” says Muir.

“They have been fantastic, in the final match once they got the first goal, the boys did not stop.

“We scored a couple of goals in the last 10 minutes of the match which showed the boys did not take their foot off the gas.

“We thrived under the pressure in the big games when we got the results we needed.

“We went 10 games unbeaten in the league which helped us win the title.”

Muir has won the title in his first season as club manager.

He is confident he can keep the majority of his title squad next season.

But he also wants to go further in the Highland Amateur Cup next season and be among the contenders to win it.

“We have a great group of lads who know each other well and there is a great team spirit among the lads which helped us get the job done.

“We have a very young team, I am only 32 and there are only two guys who are older than me in the entire squad.

“Hopefully these players will still be in the squad for years to come.

“If I had to put a wager down, every one of these guys will be back next year.”
