Invergordon/Locheye skip Richard Mackenzie said his team weren’t good enough after their latest defeat almost ended their challenge for the Ross Province League Championship.

Mackenzie was defeated.
Mackenzie was defeated.

Mackenzie’s line up of Roy Watson, Helen Lyon and Andrew Deeth faced a stern test from the Belmaduthy second skip Peter Macintyre.

But with the Tain based curler’s
final stone, a hit and roll attempt to lie on the pot lid and lie two shots for a peel the rolling stone did not carry enough weight and he went under 6–4.

Although Mackenzie still holds onto second place and above Macintyre, by virtue of a better ends record.

He is now four points behind league leader Iain Fraser, the Belmaduthy number one skip and defending champion, whom Mackenzie still has to play in the
final round.

Iain Fraser plays Caberfeidh’s Ian Munro in the next round.

Any point taken from this game would retain the league trophy for another year.

In the other round seven ties, Iain Fraser (Belmaduthy 1) beat Dave Carstairs (Muir of Ord 4) 13–1,

Nigel Murray (Invergordon) beat Ann Gibb (Ross Ladies) 10–1, Jim Thomson (Caberfeidh 2) lost 7–6 to Ian Munro (Caberfeidh 1) and Peter Fraser (Belmaduthy 3) beat Finlay MacKenzie (Muir of Ord 5) 7–2.

There was better news for Mackenzie when he took his club rink into the semi-finals of the President’s Cup competition with a win over Jim Thomson (Caberfeidh) win 6–4.

Locheye now has another tussle with a Belmaduthy second rink in the semi final on March 4 after Scott Fraser cruised past David Carstairs by a 15-shot margin.

Jamie Fraser recorded a 12-shot win over Killearnan’s Duncan Clark.

He will now face Ross Ladies, skipped by Sue Gardiner in the semi-finals after she beat Iain Mackay (Caberfeidh) 10–6.
