IAN MacIntyre’s impressive unbeaten record remains intact after round five of the Ross Province B League fixtures ahead of the Christmas break, installing his rink as favourites for the Webster Trophy in the new year.
Fortunes contrasted for three other skips, the Muir of Ord pair Duncan Mackenzie and Ross Urquhart, and Killearnan’s Neil Gillies.
Urquhart and Iso Meldrum were two members of last week’s Muir of Ord Allangrange Trophy- winning rink and the pair were involved in the top of the table clash with MacIntyre’s Caberfeidh, who had alongside him Ian Munro, S Brown and Sandra Ross. A single shot from MacIntyre in the final end decided the points which gave the Caberfeidh rink sole possession of first place with ten points and left Urquhart alone in second place with eight points.
Duncan Mackenzie, lost the euphoria of his Allangrange Trophy result and crashed 9-3 to Mike Paul and the Belmaduthy second rink while Neil Gillies collected his first points of the campaign. The Gillies quartet has threatened a result for some time and they showed resilience to recover from a poor start to win four successive ends and beat M Marion Burns (Ross Ladies) 7-3.
Coreen Macrae (Alness) with only one previous win picked up an easy second two points when she was awarded a 6-0 result when Caberfeidh’s Bob Brown was a player short then Bill Shirran (Caberfeidh 2) got the same result when club mate Frank Nicol was in the same predicament.
