The second round of North West Sutherland league fixtures took place last Saturday, with an early top of the table clash providing an entertaining afternoon for a big crowd at Osprey Park.

It was the first time that Tain Thistle and Inver had met competitively in over ten years, the sides having last competed as members of the Ross-shire Welfare League in 2012.

Both sides went into the game on the back of a winning start to their summer campaigns, but had to make do with a point apiece at the end of a fiercely contested 1–1 draw.

The hosts, sporting a new set of home kits donated by ERG Scotland, got off to a great start and went in at the break with a one-goal advantage.

Breaking the deadlock on 35 minutes, Inver scored with a stunning strike from midfield man Alex Mackenzie, who found the net with a 30-yard shot in off the crossbar.

Tain made amends in the second half and pulled a goal back through 17-year old debutant Billy Knox.

In the other League 2 match, Brora Wanderers played their first game of the season, beating Melvich 4–0.

Elsewhere, in League 1, Lochbroom went top of the table without kicking a ball after they were awarded a 3–0 walkover and three points due to Lairg Rovers failing to raise a team.

Helmsdale United won 4-2 at Lochinver in the other League 1 match.

This Saturday in League 2, Tain welcome Brora to Grant Park for a 1.30pm kick off, while Invergordon Social Club are back in action with a home game against Inver, kicking off at 3pm at the Recreation Grounds.

In League 1, Helmsdale United welcome Lochbroom while Lochinver travel to play Golspie Stafford.
