The 35-year-old received the award after a historic season for the Balmacara outfit in 2021 when they won the Camanachd Cup and MacTavish Cup for the first time in their history.

Speaking about receiving the accolade, the Scottish internationalist from Kintail says it was a huge honour and is looking forward to more success in the 2022 season.

"I've been playing shinty since I was a young boy before primary school, it was always just whatever was done up here.

"My friends played it, I enjoyed playing it and I carried on from there.

"All my family played it and we started off playing in the fields at Ratagan."

Looking forward to next season, he said: "We've got a good solid team and a good mixture of old and young, so we will just see what we can bring.

"Hopefully we can all work hard together and see where we can go with it.

"We have a lot of good young players coming through, you saw we had three good young players playing in the MacTavish and Camanachd Cup.

"We have good continuity and conveyor belt coming through, we have a couple of players retired but we have good back up coming through."
