FULL Forward John MacRae says he wants to recreate that winning feeling in the Camanachd Cup with Kinlochshiel as they start their defence against Caberfeidh tomorrow at Balmacara.

Kinlochshiel won the tournament for the first time in their history when they defeated Lovat 3–1 at Mossfield Park in Oban last year to lift the sport’s most famous trophy.

MacRae says it was a lifetime’s ambition to lift the trophy, and is now determined it was not just a once a lifetime moment for him and his teammates.

“Winning the Camanachd Cup was something that we have been aiming for our whole lives,” he said.

“Myself and my brothers, along with the older boys had been playing for a long time.

“We thought we were getting to the stage we would never win it and if we were lucky we would win one of the cups.

“But we never thought we would win the Camanachd Cup so it was an amazing feeling, as it was a lifelong ambition.”

After a slow start to the campaign, Kinlochshiel are gaining momentum this season, including a 2–1 win at Glasgow Mid-Argyll last week where MacRae scored.

He is confident Kinlochshiel can progress to the next round, but says they are well aware the striking prowess of Craig Morrison and Kevin Bartlett will be a danger to the start of their cup defence.

“Caberfeidh are strong throughout, everyone speaks about their attackers Craig and Kevin who are strong up front.

“But they have a great defender in Blair Morrison and they are solid at the back.

“They are in the Premiership for a reason, where every team we face is hard.

“Any competition we play in we are looking to win, so we are looking to take it week by week and see where it takes us this season.”

n Throw up is at 2.30pm.
