INVERGORDON manager Gary Campbell is in no doubt they can’t afford to lose to North Caledonian League leaders Loch Ness if they want to keep any hopes of winning the division alive.

Invergordon are in second place, seven points behind Loch Ness going into the top of the table clash on Saturday.

Victory would see them close the gap to four points with one game in hand going into the final furlong.

Given the gap between the two teams, Campbell says victory is vital in Inverness tomorrow.

“It is a game which we need to win,” admitted Campbell.

“Although we do have a game in hand on Loch Ness, we need to make things a lot tighter with a win.

“We are going out to get a win on Saturday.”

Campbell also admitted he didn’t think Loch Ness would be the leading title contender this season and paid tribute to what they have achieved this campaign.

But given they won the Inverness and District Amateur Football Association Premier Division in 2021, was always aware that they had squad packed with talent.

“I am a wee bit surprised with how well Loch Ness have done this season.

“I know they did well in the amateur league last summer and they have managed to continue their form in the North Caledonian League.

“But there are still games to be played and it always gets tighter near the end.”

Invergordon suffered a collapse during the second half of last season after being runaway leaders during the first half of the campaign as they threw away the chance of winning the NCL for the first time since 2017, with Golspie pipping them to the title.

Campbell says Loch Ness’s significant advantage doesn’t mean the title race is already over.

“We’ve been in their position a few times before where we’ve been ahead and not winning the league so we know what can happen,” he said.
