Invergordon come back from three goals down to beat Fort William and go top of North Caledonian League

INVERGORDON have moved to the top of the North Caledonian League after a 4-3 victory against Fort William at Claggan Park.

In an incredible comeback, the Ross-shire outfit came back from 3-0 down to claim all three points.

Fort William stormed into a 3-0 lead after 34 minutes when Andrew Maclean scored the opener after 17 minutes and doubled their advantage six minutes later.

Martin Munro made it 3-0 11 minutes before half time.

But Invergordon managed to get themselves level before the break as Fort William suffered a defensive collapse.

Callum Murray scored to start the fightback with Jordan Knight and Keith Mason all finding the net to make it 3-3 at half time.

In a tight second half, Murray scored the winner with 12 minutes remaining to give Invergordon all three points and move top.

St Duthus picked up their first win of the season when they defeated Thurso 3-1 at Grant Park and move off the bottom of the table.

The Tain outfit were in control when Thomas Lewis put them in front midway through the first half.

Finn As-Chainey and Stefan McRitchie scored within 60 seconds of each other to make it 3-0 with 18 minutes remaining .

Bobby Gunn pulled one back for Thurso with 10 minutes left with the Caithness club confirming at full time Michael Bremner had resigned.

In the Football Times quarter final, Alness United lost 3-1 to Golspie Sutherland.

Luke Mackay equalised for Alness after Korbyn Cameron’s goal to put the game into extra time.

But Cameron’s second and Louis Macpherson’s strike sent Golspie into the last four.

Loch Ness are also into the semi final after they thrashed Clachnacuddin A 8-1 at Fortrose.

The winners of the semi final will meet Inverness Athletic in the final after they beat Bonar Bridge in the last four clash last week.

n In the North Caledonian League tomorrow, St Duthus take on Bonar Bridge in Tain.

Loch Ness take on Alness United at Fortrose with Invergordon heading to Orkney.
