Blair Spittal believes the international break is coming at a good time for Ross County to regroup.

Since the last gap in the fixture list, the Staggies have lost to Celtic, Motherwell and Dundee United, with their only point coming against Hearts at home.

When league action resumes, though, County face what could prove to be a vital run of games against St Mirren, Livingston and Dundee.

So Spittal is grateful for the chance to reset ahead of those, and he feels there are obvious areas where the team will be looking to improve on with their extra time on the training pitch.

“It’s a chance for us to regroup and probably as a group go back to what we’ve been doing well,” he said.

“We could have played better against Dundee United, but it just wasn’t our day.

“We’ve got a couple of weeks now to reset and get ready to go again for what’s going to be a crucial run of games.

“I think it’s easy to see – we’re creating chances, but we’re not putting them in the back of the net and we’re giving away sloppy goals.

“We need to tighten up at both ends, which is easier said than done but it’s something we’re working at all the time in training to try and get better at.”

The break will also be a chance for County to take a step back and reflect on their performances so far.

Many a time already this season the Staggies have played well and created plenty of chances without getting the rewards for it.

Their win column in the Premiership still remains blank.

But Spittal believes everyone is still pulling in the same direction under Malky Mackay.

“You just want to get that first win of the season and then hopefully things will ease on the guys,” the 25-year-old reasoned.

“As each week passes without getting a result, it puts pressure on the next game.

“So we need to try and alleviate that and get better.”
