The 28-year-old played a pivotal role for the Staggies in their 2–1 win over St Johnstone, scoring the winning goal after missing a penalty in the first half.

Callachan spent two seasons at McDiarmid Park before being released by the Perth Saints, joining them from Hearts – County’s next opponents on Boxing Day.

He will be hoping for a similar result to help build on Wednesday night’s win that saw County escape the bottom two for the first time since September.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Tynecastle, it should be a good game,” Callachan said.

“It’s Boxing Day as well, so I’m looking forward to it.

“St Johnstone is a tough place to come, and we showed in the second half what a good team we are.

“We scored the winner, and we can take confidence from that to go and have a go at Tynecastle.”

Callachan was the first new signing of the season for County back in the summer, and he feels things have been going from strength to strength in Dingwall since then.

There was a tough run of results early in the campaign.

The Staggies went 10 games without a league win, but have only lost two of their last nine – to Rangers and Celtic – as they have started to rise up the table.

“I think we’re just getting better and better with every game,” he explained.

“We just need to take confidence from it – the gaffer has always got us knowing what we’re going to do to hurt teams.

“Obviously we struggled a wee bit at the start of the season, but it just took us a wee bit longer to gel.

“We haven’t really changed much, we’ve just kept trying to do the right things. Even what we were doing at the start of the season were the right things, it just wasn’t quite clicking.

“Now it’s starting to show on the pitch, so hopefully we keep doing well.”
