IAIN Vigurs (right) expects to be on the winning side in tonight’s Highland derby despite Ross County having lost their last couple of matches.

Vigurs, who has been in tremendous form for County this season, believes last Saturday’s defeat at St Mirren was a "freak" result and is confident the players will be up for the match against their fiercest rivals.

He told the Ross-shire Journal: "I’m really looking forward to the match. I expect both sides to come out with all guns blazing early on and be in each others faces. I’m sure it will be a high tempo game, but I can’t see it being a high scoring one.

"They have some very good players we need to be aware of. Richie Foran and Andrew Shinnie are their danger men going forward, they have combined well up front. Foran has been brilliant for them — he has scored five goals in as many games."

He warned: "We will need to tighten up at the back, especially after last week. But we were due one of those games, it was a freak result. The defenders have been outstanding for us and I’m sure they will be back to their best on Friday."

Despite losing five goals against St Mirren last week Vigurs admitted he still enjoyed playing in the match.

He said: "Funnily enough I really enjoyed playing despite us losing five goals. We outplayed St Mirren for long spells and can take a lot of positives from the match. But we need to learn to kill off teams and go for the jugular after we take the lead. We should have been two or three goals up before they scored."

Vigurs also believes County should be better placed than they are in the league despite a solid enough start.

He said: "We could have picked up more points, we’ve lost too many late goals. There was the one against Celtic and we lost against St Johnstone, a game we should have won."

Having moved from Caley Thistle in 2009 Vigurs has matured along with a number of other key players in the side.

He said: "This is my fourth season at the club now — we’ve kept the majority of the boys in that time and we know each other inside out. It’s taken us a while to get amongst the goals this season but hopefully we can carry that on on Friday."

Vigurs also believes the backing of a big County support will be an important factor in the outcome.

He added: The fans have been brilliant this season – they have come out in their numbers. We’ve had big attendances at home and great support away. Hopefully they can cheer us on to a win."
