Ross County have announced that manager John Hughes will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.
The former Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hibernian boss was appointed in Dingwall until the end of the season back in December with a simple task – keep the Staggies up.
Eight wins, including three-in-a-row to end the campaign, and two draws in the league did exactly that, with County rising from the foot of the table when Hughes took over to 10th place when the league finished, not even needing to win a play-off to secure their top flight status
County say Hughes has decided to explore other opportunities, and accordingly will not be remaining in Dingwall, but called his time at the club a "great success".
Hughes himself told the club's website: “I would like to thank the players, staff and supporters.
"I have enjoyed my time at Ross County. I was appointed with the objective of securing Premiership football and I am proud to have achieved this under the circumstances.
"I wish Roy MacGregor and Ross County every success for the future.”
MacGregor spoke to Ross County TV in their season recap show, and hinted at a change in direction at the club to usher in a new era, saying that they were taking stock of what they wanted the club to be.
With the search now on for a new manager, MacGregor will have the opportunity for a completely fresh start to coincide with what could be a new set of aims at the Global Energy Stadium.
