THE North Golf Alliance drew another blank at Reay last Sunday, the green’s staff being unable to prepare the course in the short time allowed before the deep frost, which caused the two previous postponements, left the ground.

The Reay fixture has bee rescheduled for Sunday, February 10.

Weather will be the only reason if this weekend’s fixture at Brora is called off.

The Brora course has come through the last two months very well and is in fine condition.

Only at the fifth hole will a little care be required from the tee after the December storm removed a bit of the foreshore on the right close to where the Dalchalm Burn enters the sea.

Brora, Golspie and Tain Golf Clubs, with endorsement from Sir Bob Charles, the only left-hander to have won the Open Championship, have gone into partnership with the Morangie House and Mansfield Castle Hotels in Tain and Royal Marine Hotel in Brora to offer short holiday breaks through Highland Golf Escapes marketing.

For the golfer travelling to enjoy their break along the A9 or A96 routes, The Boat of Garten Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar have joined up to offer a stopover discounted round on the way.

The three hotels are handling the bookings and tee times.

“Having played Tain and Brora, I cannot wait to visit Nairn Dunbar, Golspie and Boat of Garten, all of which are high on my list of must play courses,” said Sir Bob Charles.

“Now my days of competitive golf are behind me, I really look forward to annual visits to the Highlands and enjoy that which Scotland has to offer on and off the golf course.

“Anyone with golf in their veins must visit this special region, but I hope I get there ‘before ye on the high road’.”
