Ross County have been dealt an early blow in the January transfer window as Harry Clarke has been recalled by Arsenal.

A summer loan signing, the 20-year-old had been one of the Staggies' stand out players in the first half of the campaign, often featuring at right back as well as centre back in recent weeks.

Clarke caught the eye in Dingwall with his proclivity to go forward, which he regularly did to great effect with three goals to his name, and as recently as a few weeks ago had said he expected to stay at the club for the rest of this season.

County had a busy summer in 2021, with 16 players leaving the club and 12 coming in including Clarke, but manager Malky Mackay has already hinted that more business could be done this month.

On Clarke's departure, the Staggies boss told the club's website: "Although we are disappointed to be losing Harry, I would like to thank him for his contribution in the last six months and I think he has become an even more rounded player in that time.

“I hope he feels his time spent here in Dingwall has been enjoyable and we would like to wish him well in his career going forward.”
