Invergordon consolidate North Caledonian League lead despite below-par performance

Invergordon maintained their three point lead at the top of the North Caledonian League after battling to a 2-1 victory against title rivals Orkney at Kirkwall Grammar School.

Shaun Kerr headed home a late winner to seal the points for the league leaders, who now face fellow title contenders Thurso in their next match at the Recreation Grounds tomorrow.

“We weren’t at our best, especially in the first half,” said Invergordon manager Gary Campbell.

“It was a bit of a battle but we competed a lot better in the second half.

“Over the piece we probably deserved the win – it was a good three points.”

He added: “We have a lot of hard games coming up, starting with Saturday’s match against Thurso.

“We will need to play well against them to get something from the game.”
