THE Kyle Godsman domination of the North Scottish Golfer’s Alliance season rolled over from Nairn Dunbar to Muir of Ord last Saturday when he recorded back-to-back wins on top of his three previous scratch triumphs this winter at Boat of Garten, Torvean and Moray.

His two under par first place 66 at Muir of Ord saw him win by three strokes from Jeff Wright (Forres) and Bob Stewart (Torvean). The winner combined halves of 34 and 32 from a four-birdie and two-bogey round to win for the fifth time and complete a six-score aggregate of 398, all six cards under 70 — and his 7th card, if ever required in a tie breaker, a 69.

With just one counting fixture remaining at Elgin where members can still improve on their aggregate totals, Jeff Wright rediscovered his pre December form in Ross-shire and his 69 over the Muir course did close the gap on the leader to four shots.

Section two was won by the Alliance Match Secretary, Alan Cowie (Moray) with nett 66, of 8, one ahead of Colin Small (The Nairn). Cowie had halves of 36 and 38.

While the scratch aggregate K M Cameron Trophy is a two-horse race between Godsman and Wright, the winner of the Burnett Handicap Trophy from section one is harder to call and up for grabs at Elgin. In the mix are Paul Matheson (Grantown on Spey) who shares his nett 415 with plus-two handicapper Wright.

After Elgin tomorrow there is a two week gap before the end of season championship at Forres on March 21 where Godsman will be looking to round of his winter season in style before the ex US University of South Carolina student now working in his parents family business in Garmouth launches himself onto the Scottish amateur Order of Merit tour in a bid for international recognition.
