Gliniecki's Odivelas Box Cup performance hailed as one of Highland Boxing Academy's greatest achievements by head coach Foy

Highland Boxing Academy head coach Liam Foy has hailed Ewan Gliniecki’s performance at the Odivelas Box Cup as one of the finest achievements he has seen at the club.

Alness teenager Gliniecki won three bouts to claim a gold medal in Portugal, and was also named as the best schoolboy.

In the quarter final he stopped Welsh boxer Thomas Jones in the third round, before claiming a unanimous decision win over Ireland’s Malo Davis in the semi final.

That left a gold medal bout against hometown boxer Wamy Esteves, where once again the judges ruled unanimously in favour of Gliniecki.

“We’ve had British champions, but to go over to Portugal and beat the level of boxers he faced, it’s up there with one of the best results we’ve had,” Foy insisted.

“He also picked up the best schoolboy boxer of the tournament.

“At any box cup that we’ve gone to, we’ve never failed to come away with a champion, but we’ve never picked up the best boxer in a division."
