Fraser slides his way to summit in Ross Province Premier League

BELMADUTHY skipper Iain Fraser defeated Caberfeidh’s Jim Thomson to draw level on points with Locheye’s Richard Mackenzie in the Ross Province Premier League.

The result was a straightforward 10–3 win for Fraser.

But although his unbeaten 12 points now match those of MacKenzie at the top of the table the Tain-based skip still holds pole position by virtue of a better shots scored advantage, plus 35 against Fraser’s 39.

The situation points to an interesting next two round ties before a final shoot-out between the two leading skips when they met in the final round on on Monday March 16.

Their next round seven ties are on Monday night when Fraser plays Dave Carstairs (Muir of Ord) and MacKenzie plays the number two Belmaduthy skip Peter Macintyre, currently sitting third in the table.

In the penultimate round on March 2. Fraser will play against Ian Munro.

Richard MacKenzie’s will play Finlay Mackenzie.

Meanwhile Ross-shire have six of the 10 club rinks entered into the joint Ross-shire and Sutherland Province Bonspiel which will take place at the Inverness Ice Centre on Saturday

Belmaduthy have two rinks playing and they are joined by Ross Ladies, Muir of Ord, Caberfeidh and Killearnan.

Sutherland will be represented by Brora, Dornoch, Rogart and Locheye.

Iain Mackay’s Dornoch curlers have drawn the Ross- shire champions (Belmaduthy) in the first of their two games while Richard MacKenzie (Locheye) plays Muir of Ord’ss Ross Urquhart, in his first game.

Brora play Rogart in round one while the other Ross-shire clubs a sees Belmaduthy Two (Brenda Macintyre) against Ross Ladies (Ann Gibb) and Caberfeidh’s (Hugh Mackay) up against Duncan Clark (Killearnan).
