John Forbes just misses out on glory at Royal Dornoch Golf Club as Muir of Ord member finishes second in Carnegie Shield

Muir of Ord golfer John Forbes finished in second place in the final of the 108th Carnegie Shield at Royal Dornoch Golf Club.

He missed out on top spot by two shots from winner Sam Prince from Stockport Golf Club.

In the second round of matchplay competition, 2016 winner Forbes had ended reigning champion Chris Mailley’s hold on the famous trophy.

Forbes earlier beat Royal Dornoch member Niall Campbell in the quarter finals of the competition.

In the E C Fraser final, Ohio-based Royal Dornoch member Michael Klavora – seeded third after qualifying – defeated Joe Marley (Reddish Vale) 2&1.
