SHETLAND’S Leighton Flaws hit an extra-time winner from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory over Thurso in the Jock MacKay Memorial Cup final at Sir George’s Park last Saturday.

Shetland shaded it during regulation time but the nearest they came to scoring was a Conor Regan shot which rebounded off the upright in the first half.

But the islanders made the breakthrough midway through the first period of extra-time when they were awarded a penalty and man-of-the-match Flaws converted from the spot.

In the Football Times Cup semi-final, Golspie Sutherland defeated Sutherland United 3-0 at The Meadows.

All the goals were scored in the first half, with James Murray, Alan Larnach and Aaron Christie the players on target.

Golspie now play Orkney in Saturday’s final at Thurso.

Fixture – Saturday, April 18 – Football Times Cup Final – 2.30pm – Orkney v Golspie Sutherland (at Thurso).
