Dingwall Academy’s under-18 girls team have won the North of Scotland Cup for the first time in the school’s history.

The final was played at the Nairn Showfield as a neutral venue, as Dingwall were up against Ellon Academy.

A strong performance from the Highlanders saw them ease to victory though, recording a 4-0 win over their rivals.

Fifth-year pupil Mollie Parker got Dingwall off to a strong start, beating the Ellon goalkeeper at her near post to open the scoring in the 11th minute.

Parker would make it two before half time, curling the ball into the far corner from just inside the box to leave the keeper with absolutely no chance.

With daylight between the sides at the midway point, it might have been easy for complacency to slip into the Dingwall girls’ performance, but instead they doubled down in the second half and added to their advantage.

A set-piece brought about Dingwall’s third, with team captain Chloe Wallace’s corner kick being met by fourth-year pupil Daisy Fraser, who headed into the net.

Kiera Syrjanen then rounded off the scoring with a powerful effort from the edge of the box that went in off the underside of the bar – again leaving Ellon’s goalkeeper with no chance of making a save.

The final whistle, then, sparked scenes of celebration for Dingwall, who finally get their names engraved on the cup.

It was the perfect way for senior pupil Wallace to sign off too, as she is leaving school to go to the US on a football and academic scholarship.

She will be studying and playing at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.

The school posted on social media: “This was as complete a performance as the team have put in all season, with every player stepping up for the final.

“The girls have been an absolute credit to the school this year and we are all extremely proud of how they conduct themselves both on and off the pitch.

“It would be impossible to single out any one player for a player of the match award as the whole squad were genuinely superb. However, the final was Chloe Wallace’s last match before leaving school.

“Chloe has been a stalwart of girls football at Dingwall Academy and been an outstanding role model for the younger girls. We thank her for her contribution to school football and wish her the best for the next step in her exciting football journey.”
